The
old garden was a little boxy, a square lawn dominated by a
a very large weeping willow tree . Each year it would grow wider
by another 3 feet each year, if it was not cropped.
On each side of the garden was the infamous Laylandii
hedge four feet wide with another four feet of the garden
being sucked dry by its roots.
The front garden was thankless on a steep clay slope. In the
winter is was sodden and the summer the lawn was parch dry.
