My name is Mike Hood a
retired research and development electrical engineer.
I have now retired with my
wife Wendy back to Dorset
In the past 40 years I have
been fortunate to be involved in a number of exciting
scientific and engineering projects. This included
working in one of the coldest places (the Antarctic), then to
working on the hottest experiments (Fusion) and to working on
one of the coolest project (the SKYLON Space Plane).
My other interest include my
dogs and moving dirt around the garden.
The idea of this site is to
share with you some of my experiences.
On this site you can see:
what it was like working on one of the most isolated antarctic
research stations (Halley Bay). You can see how scientist and
engineers are trying to reproduce the energy of the sun to
provide future clean energy for all. In space you can see how
a new propulsion system will bring the next generation of
space vehicles.
Other interest include
my novel ways of building walls with tights. Then there are
our Norwegian Elkhounds dogs
