The old rear garden was a little boxy with a very large weeping willow at the top which would grow another 3 feet wider each year, if it was not cropped. On each side of the garden was the infamous Laylandii hedge  4 feet wide with another 4 feet of the garden being sucked dry by its roots.

The front garden was thankless it lay on a steep slope letting all the moisture drain away. As soon as summer was here, away went the lawn.
